509 Outerwear

509 Outerwear evolves to keep leading the pack

For the past 14 years, we've made it our mission to design and develop the absolute best in technical snowmobile gear. We have been wear-testing, listening to our Pro Riders, listening to our passionate consumers, and the result is vastly improved outwear. We continue to deliver on our fundamentals of Wearability and have evolved the materials and features to improve and dial in our offering.

509 Material 5Tech fabric just got better

5Tech material has evolved this year to provide better wearability and weatherproofness. 300d Cordura HP is a Polyester woven material that is still lightweight, but durable and tears resistant. 5Tech then provides waterproof and breathable performance of 10k waterproofness, and 10k Breathability. Industry-leading DWR finish keeps the outer surfaces dry, the first line of defense in staying warm and dry. 5Tech Pro is a new material offering this year, featuring our same 300d Polyester face material, with a 20k 20k waterproof breathable performance.

Weather Proof Construction

509 Continues with our proven weatherproof construction and we have added to the assortment. This year our stroke jacket and bib use fusion welding on critical seams. This industry awakening technology provides durability and weatherproofness like no other. Fusion welding joins the material with a molecular bond that joins the materials together. This increases cross wise seams strength,, and provides a seamless stichless weatherproofness.

509 Footwear

509 Introduces the last critical piece in your snowmobile kit

Introducing our 509 Raid Boots, Stroke sock, and Tactical Sock. 509 Raid boots are built with on a technical snowmobile platform that delivers all-day warmth, comfort, waterproofness and ankle support. The Raid uses a high carbon rubber outsole with a perfect blend of softness, traction, and durability. The upper is reinforced and clad in Raid rubber for durability. The Raid is offered in both a dual Boa or lace system. 509 Stroke and tactical socks deliver performance with our famous 509 styles. Designed with full calf length and full terry for a warm and comfortable sock.

509 Helmets MIPS Technology

What is the MIPS?

In a helmet with MIPS Brain Protection System (BPS), the shell and liner are separated by a low friction layer. When a helmet with MIPS Brain Protection System is subjected to an angled impact, the low friction layer allows the helmet to slide relative to the head. The MIPS BPS is designed to add protection in helmet against the rotational motion. The rotational motion is a combination of rotational energy (angular velocity) and rotational forces (from angular acceleration) that both affect the brain and increases the risk for minor and severe brain injuries. MIPS BPS has been proven to reduce rotational motion when implemented in a helmet by absorbing and redirecting rototional energies and forces tranferred to the brain.

Strain in the brain?

The illustration is based on data that generated using a finite element computer model based on measurements obtained from nine accelerometers in a Hybrid III crash test dummy head. The dummy head wearing a helmet was subjected to an angled impact using the MIPS test rig. The model illustrations strain in the brain from a similar angled impact when the dummy head is wearing a helmet without MIPS and a helmet with MIPS.

The Great Misconception

Accident statistics show that man injuries occur due to angled impact to the head. However, in standard tests, the helmet is dropped vertically onto a flat surface. The results are helpful for measuring precise vertical impacts, but inferior for measuring the more realistic scenario of an angled impact. The MIPS has been developed fro reality and increased protection against angled impacts.

Patented System

A helmet with MIPS Brain Protection System offers better protection against rotational motion than one without MIPS. Since 1996 research and tests have been performed to compare a helmet with the MIPS Brain Protective System to a conventional helmet. The results showed that it was possible to redirect and reduce the rotational motion transmitted to the brain by adding the MIPS.

509 Ignite Goggles

Introducing the Ignite heated dual lens technology by 509. Available exclusively on our Sinister X5 & Kingpin goggles, the Ignite heated lens provides the ultimate in fog prevention technology. Fueled by a lightweight strap mounted 7.4V 2200mAh rechargeable Lithium-ion power pack, the entire surface of the lens quickly heats up to 104° F using a transparent thermal conductive ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) layer on the inner lens. Evolved from military aircraft windshield defrosting technology, the Ignite quickly eliminates fog with a single button in either two minutes auto mode or always on mode. A continuous run time rating of 4-5 full hours at max temp ensure you are fog free all day. Simply recharge the pack for tomorrow's rides. The power pack features integrated Bluetooth technology for battery status, firmware upgrades, and to create customized heating profiles that fit your specific needs (using our free Ignite mobile app, coming soon).
